Philosophy & Guarantee

HABANO & ALMA · Havana House · Madrid

An independent cigar house

HABANO & ALMA is an independent specialist cigar retailer based in Madrid. We keep a shop in the Usera district and ship a deliberately short, carefully chosen selection to customers in Spain and abroad.

We are not part of any franchise network and we do not trade on anyone else’s name. What we offer is our own selection, kept in our own conditions, with our own advice behind it — and that is exactly what this page is about.

What we believe

01

Selection before volume

We would rather carry a short list we know intimately than a catalogue we have never smoked. Every reference on this site is here because we chose it — for the way it smokes today, not only for the name on the band.

02

Condition is half the cigar

A cigar is an agricultural product that keeps changing long after it leaves the factory. A great vitola that has been allowed to dry out is no longer a great vitola. Storage is not a detail for us; it is most of what you are actually paying for.

03

Advice, not pressure

We would rather sell you one cigar you love than a box you merely tolerate. Tell us what you drink, how much time you have and what you smoked last — that conversation is worth more than any score out of a hundred.

How we keep our cigars

Everything we sell is held and conditioned by us before it is dispatched. These are the conditions we work to.

Temperature16–18 °C, held steady all year round.
Relative humidity65–70 %, the classic reference range for Cuban cigars.
StorageCedar-lined humidified cabinets, away from direct light, heat and vibration.
RestingNew arrivals are left to settle before they are offered for sale.
InspectionStock is checked regularly for drying, mould and any sign of tobacco beetle.
DispatchOrders leave in cushioned, humidity-protected packaging, sealed for transit.

What we guarantee

  • Original packaging. Cuban boxes leave us sealed, with the Cuban national warranty seal intact — unless you have asked us to open a box in order to supply single cigars.
  • Verifiable origin. The code carried on that seal can be checked by anyone, free of charge, on the official Cuban verification service. We show you exactly how on our Traceability and Guarantee page.
  • Honest description. What is written on the product page is what goes into the parcel. If the box code, format or year we hold differs from what you expected, we tell you before dispatch, not after.
  • No silent substitution. If something is unavailable we contact you and wait for your answer. We never swap an item for something else on our own initiative.
  • Condition on arrival. If a parcel arrives damaged, or a box arrives in poor condition, write to us straight away and we will put it right within the terms of our Refund & Return Policy.

The seal on the box

The Cuban national warranty seal
The Cuban national warranty seal, applied across the opening of every export box.

Since 2009, every box of Cuban cigars leaving the island for export carries the Sello de Garantía Nacional de Procedencia — a green warranty seal pasted across the opening of the box, printed like a banknote and carrying a holographic band, a barcode and a unique code.

It is designed to tear apart the moment the box is opened, so an intact seal tells you the box has not been touched since it left Cuba. The code on it can be checked by anyone, free of charge, against the official register.

Come and talk to us

Most of what we know is not written on this website. If you are hesitating between two boxes, putting together a gift, or filling a humidor from scratch, write to us or call — or come to the shop and smell them.
