After higher studies at an American university, Benjamín was recruited by General Cigar. In Havana, where he joined his brother Félix, he entered the Parra company, which he took over in 1913, renaming it Menéndez y Cía.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center\"\u003eIt was in 1923, thanks to Uncle Alonso who joined them, bringing along in his luggage a cigar maker, « Pepe » García, that \u003cstrong\u003ethe Montecristo adventure could begin.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center\"\u003eDetermined to conquer export markets, the partners Menéndez y García acquired the Particulares cigar factory in 1935 and, that same year, decided to found a brand whose credo would be luxurious restraint in presentation and flawless craftsmanship. It would be Montecristo. There are several versions regarding the origin of the name, but what is certain, however, is that the English and the Hunters company worked to convince Cubans of the excellence of such a name. In 1937, Alonso Menéndez acquired the H. Upmann factory and transferred all Montecristo production there.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center\"\u003eThe success of this label would be meteoric. In 1955, the Bishop of Havana even came to bless the factory headquarters! Alfred Dunhill, which distributed Montecristo in the United States and Great Britain, created its own range in the 1940s under the name Montecristo Dunhill Seleccion Suprema. It lasted until 1982. To the five vitolas Nos. 1 to 5, which had existed since 1935, Joyitas and Especial were added in 1969. \u003cstrong\u003eThree years later, in 1971, the legendary Montecristo A was born.
