Description
An extraordinary Habanos as the first Figurado in Cohiba's standard assortment.
The Cohiba Pirámides Extra is an addition to Cohiba's Línea Clásica. Its extraordinary and exclusive vitola should give this premium Habanos brand a new level of preference. In addition, this vitola features a new Cohiba band, a first for the Línea Clásica.
The brand was created in 1966 and, for a long time, these cigars were offered exclusively to various national and international Heads of State and, of course, to Leader Fidel Castro as well. Production of these cigars takes place at the renowned Cuban factory El Laguito. It was not until 1982 that Cohiba cigars appeared on the international market in limited quantities for the most demanding connoisseurs.
The name Cohiba comes from the Taíno language. The term refers to a wrapping of tobacco leaves, which the indigenous people of Cuba smoked and which Christopher Columbus discovered in 1492 when he landed on the island.
The tobacco leaves used to make Cohiba come from the best plantations, that is, the five top-quality plantations, a designation awarded by the Tobacco Institute to the best plantations located in very specific tobacco-growing regions, namely San Juan y Martinez and San Luis in the Vuelta Abajo* region (D.O.P.).
Cohiba exists in 4 different lines. The Línea Clásica is made up of 6 vitolas developed between 1966 and 1989. The Línea 1492 was launched in 1992 for the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America. In 2002, 10 years later, a new reference in the tobacco world called Siglo VI was introduced. Then, in 2007, the Maduro 5 line followed with three new vitolas, including the Genios wrapper leaf, the result of a fermentation process lasting more than five years. Then, in 2010, Cohiba Behike was launched, the most exclusive line from Cohiba. For the first time and uniquely, a fourth filler leaf is used in the blend of the three vitolas. It is called Medio Tiempo and refers to the two rarest leaves located at the top of the tobacco plant, and therefore the most exposed to the sun.
Cohiba is also a leader when it comes to trends in the Cuban cigar industry. In 2002, the Cohiba factory introduced a Reserva and in 2009 a Grand Reserva, both made from carefully selected tobacco that had fermented for three to five years.
Although various Figurados were made in the past for special occasions in limited editions, including the Reserva del Milenio and the 2001 and 2006 Limited Editions, the Pirámides Extra is the first Figurado in Cohiba's standard assortment as part of the Línea Clásica.
The factory-made vitola called Pirámides Extra (ring gauge 54 x 160 mm length) is produced exclusively for Cohiba.
One of the essential qualities of this new Cohiba cigar lies in its presentation. Thanks to its redesigned band with hologram, it is easily recognizable by Aficionados.
