In 1845, he built a large factory that he called Real Fabrica de Tabaco Partagas at no. 520 Industria Street, in Havana. This is the one we all know today, still in the same place; it is also the oldest Cuban factory still in operation. Business was thriving, as the size of this factory was impressive for the time.

Legend has it that Don Jaime Partagas decided to call it the “Royal Factory” because among his clients were many aristocrats from Europe and Arabia. Much of his success came from the fact that he personally owned a good number of tobacco farms in the Vuelta Abajo and used only the finest tobaccos from them for the production of his cigars. He is also said to have been the first manufacturer to experiment with different tobacco fermentation and aging techniques rather than relying on traditional practice.

In 1860, Jose Jaime Partagas once again made his mark on tobacco history by being the first to employ a “reader” to read aloud in his factory. This innovation gradually spread to all factories, making the work of the cigar rollers less boring and, at the same time, contributing to the culture and education of his employees.

On June 17, 1868, at the height of his career, José Jaime Partagas was shot dead on one of his plantations. The circumstances of this murder were obscure...legend has it that it stemmed from a romantic rivalry. His son Jose took over the family business. At the end of the 19th century, the company was sold to the Jose A. Bance bank, which in 1900 resold it to Ramon Cifuentes Llano and Jose Fernandez.

In April 1916, Don Francisco Pego joined the company as a partner, renaming it Cifuentes, Pego y Cia. Ramon Cifuentes died in Spain in 1938, followed by Francisco Pega Pita on November 13, 1940, in Havana. The Cifuentes family thus became the sole owner of the company, which was renamed Cifuentes y Cia. In 1954, they acquired the Bolivar and La Gloria Cubana brands from Jose Fernandez Rocha, and by the revolution they represented the second-largest Cuban cigar export company, with 25% of the market in 1958.

After the revolution, the Cifuentes family left Cuba in 1961; production, however, remained fully operational, retaining its role as a major Cuban brand alongside Montecristo, Rome y Julieta and H. It is probably the most widely smoked Cuban cigar around the world, along with the Montecristo No. 4. On the palate, the Partagas Series D No. 4 gets off to a flying start with aromas of cedar and pepper that intertwine beautifully. Strength is there from the first third. The woody character gives way to more earthy, more masculine notes, with a satisfying, full-bodied finish and a few welcome final notes of cocoa. This cigar is 124 mm long and 19.84 mm in diameter, and it will take you about 45 to 60 minutes to smoke. The Partagas Series D No. 4 is available in several presentations, in boxes of 10 or 25 cigars, but also in a 3-cigar case with cigars packaged in aluminum tubes. In this Partagas D series, you can also try the Series D No. 5 as well as the Series D No. 6, which are the little brothers of the Partagas Series D No. 4 but still have plenty of character. The oldest cigar factory in Cuba, Partagas was founded in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagas Ravelo when he left Spain for Havana. Owner of several tobacco farms in the Vuelta Abajo, a tobacco-growing region recognized as the world's benchmark for tobacco, Don Jaime had the best raw material at hand to produce outstanding cigars. Success came quickly, and many aristocrats of all nationalities counted among his loyal customers, to the point that the factory almost had to be renamed "Royal Factory". Driven by the forward-thinking spirit of its founder, Partagas was the first factory to experiment with different fermentation techniques and was also the first to make use of the services of a "lector", making the work of the torcedors less monotonous and, above all, helping to foster the culture and education of its employees. Following the death of Don Jaime Partagas Ravelo, the factory changed hands several times before becoming the property of the Cifuentes family in 1940. After the Cuban Revolution and the departure of its owners in 1961, Partagas remained one of the most important factories, along with Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta, accounting for nearly 25% of Cuban production on its own.

The Partagas de Luxe A/T Tubos is a small, well-balanced cigar with plenty of flavor and aromas of coffee, cedar, and coconut.
